Redirects
Redirects is under Site Features in the left-hand menu. A redirect sends anyone visiting an old web address to a new one, so their link still works.
Use one whenever a page's address changes, or a page is removed and something else should take its place.
Adding a redirect
- Click Redirects in the left-hand menu.
- Click Create New.
- In From, enter the old address — the path only, such as
/about-us/committees. - In To, choose the page it should now go to.
- Click Save.
⚠️ The website must be rebuilt
A new redirect does not take effect immediately. The field itself says so: "You will need to rebuild the website when changing this field."
So after adding or changing a redirect, tell whoever manages the site that a rebuild is needed, or it won't work and you'll assume you did something wrong.
This applies to editing and deleting redirects too, not just adding them.
When to add one
You changed a page's slug. The old address is dead for anyone with a bookmark or an old link.
You deleted a page. Point it at the nearest useful thing rather than leaving a dead end.
You reorganised the site. Moving pages under a new parent changes every address underneath.
The slug of a page is part of its web address, so changing it breaks links — see Pages and the page builder.
Getting From right
From is a path, not a full address. Use /committees, not https://www.yoursite.com/committees.
Copy it from the old link if you can rather than typing it, so a typo doesn't leave you with a redirect that never fires.
Don't chain them
If /a redirects to /b, and later /b moves to /c, point /a at /c as well. Chains are slow and eventually break.
