Membership Types
Membership Types is under Collections in the left-hand menu. It holds your membership categories and what each one costs.
This is the screen behind the membership or join page on your website.
What's on it
Instructions — a block of text shown alongside the membership types. Use it for anything that applies to all of them: how to apply, when dues are due, who to contact.
Membership Types — the list itself. Each type has:
| Field | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Name | The membership type, as members see it. Required |
| Slug | The short name used in the web address. Required |
| Description | A line explaining who this type is for |
| Order | Controls the position in the list — lower numbers appear first |
| Active | Untick to hide a type without deleting it |
| Fee Line Items | What makes up the cost — see below |
Fee Line Items
Rather than one total, each membership type is built from individual charges. That means members can see exactly what they are paying for.
Each line has:
- Label — what the charge is for. Required
- Amount — the figure. Required
- Frequency — Annual or One-time. Required
So a new-member type might list an annual dues line, an annual MLS fee, and a one-time application fee — each shown separately.
All three fields are required on every line. A line will not save with any of them empty.
Adding a membership type
- Click Membership Types under Collections.
- Under Membership Types, click Add Item.
- Fill in Name and Slug.
- Add each charge under Fee Line Items.
- Set the Order.
- Leave Active ticked.
- Click Save.
Taking a type off the website
Untick Active and save. It comes off the site but the record stays, with all its fee lines intact.
This is much better than deleting. Membership types come back — a category paused for a year is common — and rebuilding the fee lines from memory is how the wrong number ends up on the website.
Delete only when you are certain.
When fees change
Edit the Amount on the relevant line and save. The change is live immediately.
Fees are the single most important thing on this screen to get right — check the figures against your fee schedule before saving, not after. There is no draft and no undo.
